We almost always (conditions permitting) ride in a DOUBLE PACELINE when the group is greater than 10 riders.
It is strongly recommended that you have the route (preferably in navigation format on your bike computer, or alternatively, on your cell phone if you have a handle bar mount) in case you are dropped and have to make it back to ride start on your own.
Contact the Ride Leader PRIOR to registering if you are not sure you will be able to keep up with the target speed and/or distance or have any questions about participating in a DROP ride.

23rd ANNIVERSARY RIDE OF SILENCE Registration Required
Once again, Sussex Cyclists is participating in the Ride of Silence. This is a worldwide, silent, slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.
WHEN: Wed. May 21st, 6:45 PM Clip-In
WHERE: Behind WAWA, Dartmouth Rd. & Coastal Hwy (Southbound Route 1 in Lewes). The ride will be escorted by a Troop 7 State Police team. Cyclists will ride in the shoulder lane south on Route One from the Wawa to the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal bridge where they will travel under the highway and then head north returning to the starting point in less than an hour.
WHY DOES THE RIDE OF SILENCE ORGANIZATION EXIST?
WHAT IS THE RIDE OF SILENCE?
On Wed. May 21, 2025 at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.
